Australia skipper Steve Smith continues to run riot and hammer the visitors as the 28-year old has now become the third fastest batsman to smash 22 Test hundreds. Smith overtook legend Sachin Tendulkar as the Australian skipper made his 22nd ton in 108 innings, where it took Tendulkar 114 innings. This innings of Smith would be special as he made his second double-hundred in 59 Test matches that he has played. He continues to batter the visitors in the ongoing Ashes series where the Kangaroos lead the five-match rubber 2-0.

Only Don Bradman (58 innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (101 innings) have reached the landmark in fewer innings. Smith has passed his 1000 runs for the calendar year, smashing his second ton in the 2017 Ashes series. He is the second Australian after Bradman to hit 22 tons and is the first captain to hit a double hundred since 1993 in an Ashes series. The skipper continues to top the Test rankings and has also even broken his highest score of 217.

Australia lead the series 2-0 and the third Test in Perth would decide the winner. Alongside Smith it was Mitchell Marsh who also brought up his ton against England and has now gone on to score 150 on Day 3 of the third Test. Australia have taken the lead on the third day and aim to project a massive score on the board which can be Joe Root's worst nightmare.

The Australian skipper's statistics need not be explained furthermore as the cricket fans continue to sit back and enjoy a masterclass by the 28-year old. Twitter congratulated Smith on his achievement as in-stand Indian skipper Rohit Sharma leads the way.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has made his opinion on comparing the Australian captain with the Indian skipper Kohli and feels that Smith is unrivalled in the Test format where as Kohli is the best across all the formats.

At this rate, Smith and Co. are looking at a series win as the visitors aren't able to simply catch a break.
