"There is a riot-like situation in the country due to the violence over CAA and NRC. I wonder how many people have understood these two decisions. There are different aspects to these two issues," MNS president Raj Thackeray told reporters.
Polling began on Monday morning in all 288 Assembly constituencies of Maharashtra where 3,237 candidates, including 235 women, are in the fray. The voting commenced at 7 am and will end at 6 pm.
Thackeray, who stepped inside the ED offices at Ballard Pier in south Mumbai around 11.15 a.m., finally stepped out at 8.15 p.m., even as his wife Sharmila, daughter Urvashi, and son Amit waited outside to receive him.
The agency is probing Thackeray's involvement in the case in connection with the IL&FS group's loan equity investment in a company called Kohinoor CTNL.
"When I say there should not be any interference, it does not mean there should not be any contact between the people from the field of literature and politicians," he added.
During the speech in Pandharpur, Thackeray said that the Shiv Sena will not take part in any trading over seat allocation.
“I want these poor states to prosper as well. But instead of asking questions to their leaders, most of them prefer to rush to Mumbai,” he said.
Tanushree Dutta took to her Twitter to criticise MNS for threatening Bigg Boss makers of violence if they let Tanushree Dutta participate.
A senior police official has confirmed the arrest of at least eight MNS workers in connection with the case.
Around a dozen MNS workers barged into PVR Icon on Senapati Bapat Road in Pune and some of them slapped the assistant manager of the theatre.
Addressing a press conference, Nirupam said the Congress would never align with a party that believes in divisive politics.
Addressing party workers at a rally at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai, Thackeray said, "The country is fed up with the false promises made by (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi and his government."
The MNS said the protesters should respect the decision of the Supreme Court which has cleared the decks for the release of the 13th Century period drama, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
MNS has adopted an aggressive stance against hawkers occupying railway station premises in the wake of the Elphinstone Road railway station stampede.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam said he would not tolerate such high-handedness of MNS leaders against the hawkers.
Raj Thackeray also said that current trends and reports indicate that the ruling BJP could lose the upcoming Assembly election in Gujarat.
A group of activists claiming to be affiliated to the MNS today drove away more than two dozen illegal hawkers from a railway bridge here.
