Google has recently announced the launch of its much-awaited smartphone, the Google Pixel 8a, in India. This smartphone is an upgrade to the Pixel 7a that was launched last year in the country. The launch took place a week before Google's annual developer conference, scheduled to happen on May 14, 2024. Some of the key highlights of this smartphone include a refreshed design, the Tensor G3 SoC, and AI features previously exclusive to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Here, we have compared the Google Pixel 8a with its predecessor Google Pixel 7a to help you decide which smartphone is best to buy for you.

Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Display

Although the display size of the Pixel 8a has not changed, customers will notice that the screen is smoother than the Pixel 7a's. This is because the Pixel 8a has a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 7a has a 90Hz screen. Both phones have an OLED panel, Full-HD resolution, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The Pixel phones also have HDR support and Always-On Display functionality.

Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Processor

The new Pixel 8a boasts an upgraded performance as compared to the Pixel 7a. This is attributed to the new Tensor G3 processor. This processor is similar to the one featured in the Pixel 8 Pro, and it provides better speed and efficiency to Google AI features and other functions. In contrast, the Pixel 7a features the Tensor G2 processor. The Pixel 8a has a storage capacity of 256GB but retains the same 8GB RAM as the Pixel 7a.

Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Cameras

The Pixel 8a does not come with a higher-resolution camera than its predecessor, the Pixel 7a. However, it boasts new Google AI features that enhance its camera capabilities. The phone has a 64MP wide main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera, just like the Pixel 7a. But it comes with additional features like Best Take, Magic Editor, Audio Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, and Night Sight, among others. For selfies, the Pixel 8a has a 13MP camera which is the same as the one present on the Pixel 7a.

Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Battery

The Pixel 8a has a slightly larger battery compared to the Pixel 7a, with a capacity of 4492mAh and fast charging support.

Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Price

It is worth noting that Google has not terminated the production of the Pixel 7a, which means that both last year's and the new affordable Pixel models are still available for purchase. The Pixel 8a has a starting price of Rs 52,999, but customers can buy it for as low as Rs 39,999. Additionally, the Pixel 7a is now priced at Rs 36,999.

Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: Verdict

For the latest Google AI features and flagship-level performance, choose Pixel 8a. If you're on a budget, Pixel 7a offers the Pixel experience at a lower cost.
