Owaisi also slammed BJP for being silent over a provision of Goa's common civil code where Hindu man is allowed to marry twice.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, addressing a huge Friday prayer gathering at the famous Mecca Masjid near Charminar, Hyderabad, became emotional and alleged that Muslims were being threatened, but they would not cow down and fight.

Bulldozers tore down several concrete and temporary structures close to a mosque in Jahangirpuri as part of an anti-encroachment drive by the BJP-ruled civic body, days after the northwest Delhi neighborhood was rocked by communal violence.

Asaduddin Owaisi's car came under attack in Hapur while he was returning to Delhi after attending election-related events in Meerut last week. No one was injured in the incident.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief also alleged that those behind the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi were the ones who opened fire at him.

Both the assailants have been arrested, and according to media reports, they have revealed that they belong to a Hindu outfit. They have been identified as Sachin Sharma, a law student from Badalpur, Greater Noida, and Shubham, from Saharanpur. 

The Centre decided to provide Asaduddin Owaisi with Z category security after reviewing the threat level in the light of Thursday's gun attack near Delhi.

"Two persons have been arrested for firing on AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi's convoy while he was returning to Delhi after campaigning in UP. The investigation is underway," Superintendent of Police Hapur, Deepak Bhuker said.

UP Police has arrested one of the attackers and detained another person. Police said the interrogation of attackers is underway.
