A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable was killed by militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday night, police said.

Police sources said that militants fired upon Head Constable Ashiq Hussain who was posted at the Awantipora police station when he was on way home.

"He succumbed shortly after being shot," said a source, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab those responsible.

More details are awaited.

The incident comes days after a Border Security Force (BSF) constable Muhammad Ramzan Parray was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on September 27. While the jawan died on the spot, four of his family members -- his father, two brothers and an aunt -- were injured in the attack.

The BSF constable was deployed with the border-guarding force's 73rd battalion and had come home in Bandipora district on a vacation a few days earlier. Jammu and Kashmir Police said that terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was behind the killing of the BSF jawan.

Earlier in the da, the BSF had cautioned its personnel about terrorists planning more attacks on unarmed soldiers. The BSF alert, based on multiple intelligence inputs, hinted of more such surprise attacks on armed forces.
