The hideout couldn't be kept secret for a long time. With the help of the accomplices, Khanna and Gill were arrested on 4th of May whereas Sharma was arrested on 6th of May, 1999. Though police was able to nab them they weren't able to get hold of the weapon with which Jessica was murdered. It was thought to have been passed on to a friend who had been visiting from the US and who may subsequently have returned there.

The case by now has involved several well-known people. Manu Sharma himself was the son of Vinod Sharma, who was a former minister of the national government at the time of the shooting and by the time the subsequent trial has started he became a minister in the Haryana state government. His friend Yadav was the son of another state politician, D. P. Yadav.
