Though, Manu Sharma offered her a 1000 rupee note she denied to offer him the liquor. This enraged Sharma further and he fired at her with 0.22 calibre pistol. He fired twice at her. The first bullet was to threaten her not to refuse liquor that hit the ceiling but when Jessica refused again, Sharma couldn't tolerate it and killed Lal shooting right at her head.

Seeing this, Sharma and his friends — Amardeep Singh Gill, Vikas Yadav, and Alok Khanna — left the scene. When Sharma's family was contacted they were not able to contact them nor were Sharma's mother anywhere to be found.
