Maria's call details which showed that Jerome had called up Maria 1000 times between 7th and 20th May also made the couple a prime suspect.
Maria and Jerome were arrested and convicted. Maria was found not guilty of murder but was convicted for destroying evidence. She was sentenced to a maximum of three years of imprisonment. She was released the next day as her time served in the jail was adjusted in the punishment.
Jerome was sentenced for 10 years of imprisonment for killing and 3 years for destroying evidence. The couple was also asked to pay Rs.50,000 as fine to Neeraj's family.
