Will not allow any activity inimical to India: Myanmar

Nay Pyi Taw: Myanmar yesterday assured India that it will not allow its soil to be used for any activity inimical to Indian interests.This assurance was given to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by Myanmar President

The seven members - India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal - bring together over 20 per cent of the world population, which is about 1.5 billion, and a GDP of over USD 2.5 trillion.

India and Myanmar share a 1,600 km-long land boundary along Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur and Agartala.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Singh also had a separate meeting with his new Nepali counterpart Sushil Koirala.

Premier Koirala was keen that Prime Minister Singh visit Nepal at the earliest, Khurshid said.

Singh told Koirala that it may be difficult for a visit by him at this juncture as India was preparing for general elections and suggested that the Nepalese leader could visit India.

During the talks, Singh assured Koirala that India will not be found wanting in its support for democracy in Nepal.
