Kadapa (AP): Cash worth Rs 18.5 lakh and three kgs of gold were stolen from a rural bank here in Andhra Pradesh, police said yesterday.







The robbery at Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank's (APGB) branch in Rajampeta town in the district came to light this morning when it opened after a two-day holiday, they said.

Police said Rs 18.5 lakh in cash and 3 kgs of gold ornaments pledged by 63 customers were stolen by unidentified persons. An investigation has been launched.

Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrasekhar Reddy and Rajampeta DSP Anyonya visited the spot to monitor the investigation. A dog squad was pressed to trace clues.

Preliminary findings indicate that at least half a dozen people were involved in the robbery, police said, adding they were looking for other clues.
