New Delhi, Jan 27: The Indian Railways is considering a proposal to discontinue preparing meals and breakfasts inside pantry cars of long-distance trains to maintain hygiene and quality.
A senior official said, 250 base kitches will be set up throughout the country to provide meals and breakfasts in trains. Prominent base kitches will be at New Delhi, Nizamuddin, Old Delhi, Howrah, Patna, Mumbai and Bhubaneswar.
Only hot tea, coffee, soup will be allowed to be prepared inside pantry cars apart from storing meals and breafasts loaded from base kitchens, the official said.
The proposal has come after numerous complaints from travellers about sub-standard food being cooked inside pantry cars in filthy condition.
