Noida: Police arrest 3 accused in Punjab National Bank loot bid, search for remaining underway

Two of the accused suffered injuries and were hospitalised following a gun battle with the police late on Tuesday in Sector 19 of the city.

Noida police on Tuesday night arrest three people, allegedly involved in Punjab National Bank robbery bid on September 21, which killed two guards. The accused were arrested following an encounter with the police, officials said.

Two of the accused suffered injuries and were hospitalised following a gun battle with the police late on Tuesday in Sector 19 of the city. The third accused was taken into custody, a senior official said.

"Two of their accomplices, including a minor, managed to give the police the slip in the darkness of the night," Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said.

In a robbery bid at a branch of the Punjab National Bank, two private guards were bludgeoned to death by unidentified assailants. The incident was reported from at the circle office in Sector 1 of Noida.

The two security personnel, Mudrika Prasad and Mukesh Yadav, were in the guard room of the bank when the accused attacked them on their head with a baton, leading to their deaths.

According to the police, during the robbery bid, the men had tried to break into the strongroom of the bank, located in the basement of the building, but failed.

A probe in the matter revealed the involvement of five people, all members of a gang, said the Noida police chief on Tuesday.

Further probe was underway and a hunt to nab the remaining accused was underway, he added.

"The arrested accused have been identified as Aqil, Dinesh and Munshi. Aqil and Dinesh suffered injuries in the police firing and have been admitted in the district hospital," Sharma said.
