In a shocking incident, a self-proclaimed godwoman and her private guards went on a shooting spree at a wedding in Haryana’s Karnal town on Tuesday, killing the groom’s aunt and leaving three others critically injured.
The victim and those injured had come to attend the wedding function where Sadhvi Deva Thakur and her securitymen started celebratory firing in the air. Several rounds were fired by them, said police, quoting eyewitnesses.
Police booked Thakur and her security guards on charges of murder and under other sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act following the shooting incident.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Savitrii Lawns marriage palace near the railway station in Karnal town, 140 km from here.
Karnal is also the assembly constituency of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar who heads the BJP government in the state.
Police said that further investigations were in progress and raids were being conducted to nab the accused.
