Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, Sept 29: The Ivory Coast government says parliamentary elections will be held on Dec. 11.

The West African nation held the first presidential election in a decade last October and legislative elections were to follow. They were put on hold when former president Laurent Gbagbo refused to accept his loss, plunging the country into a five-month-long crisis.

Gbagbo was forcefully removed from power in April, allowing the nation's democratically elected leader Alassane Ouattara to take over.

Ivory Coast's government confirmed the December parliamentary elections in a statement released Wednesday night.

Gbagbo remains under house arrest. His party—which ruled the country for 10 years—has pulled out of the planning process for the upcoming legislative election saying the commission organizing it is unfairly stacked with members of Ouattara's party. AP
