India vs Australia: Virat Kohli set to achieve rare milestone if India win Sydney Test

It seems like India skipper Virat Kohli's record-breaking spree will not going to stop in 2019 too as he is on the brink of achieving another milestone. In the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia, India are already 2-1 up with one game to spare. The last Test will start at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3.

The Sydney Test will be an important Test for the Indian skipper as the win will take him to the top of a record list. Kohli will become the only Indian captain to win two overseas Test series with three victories in each of the competitions. Regarding the fact that India played their first Test match in June 1932, the feat will be achieved after 76 years.

Kohli had already won the Test series in Sri Lanka by 3-0 in 2017. The 31-year-old is also on the verge of joining great Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi to win three Test series outside Asia.

The 'Run Machine' of Indian cricket has already equalled former skipper Sourav Ganguly's tally of most Test match victories in overseas as a captain. Kohli, who has sometimes been criticized for his captaincy tactics, has already led the Indian team to 11 overseas Test triumphs as a leader.

With the win in Sydney, Kohli will also become the most successful Asian skipper in Australia with 3 Test wins in a series. The current table toppers alongside Kohli are Bishan Singh Bedi and Mushtaq Mohammad who have won two-two each.

In terms of batting performances, the Delhi-born batsman has continued his golden run till now in the series with one century in Perth and 82 in Melbourne Test. He also ended the 2018 year on a high note in the ICC Rankings with top batting positions in both Test and ODI cricket. Kohli also ended the year 2018 as the leading international run-scorer for third straight year
