UP: Active dengue cases reported in Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Kanpur; viral fever claims 60 lives in Firozabad

Despite having recorded 97 cases in Prayagraj, the district has not reported any death due to dengue so far.

Amid the outbreak of dengue in Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Medical Officer of Prayagraj district, Nanak Saran on Tuesday informed that the district has reported 97 cases of dengue so far. Out of these 97 cases, around nine dengue patients are admitted to hospitals at present. Talking to reporters, Saran said, "The cases are likely to increase in the city because they are increasing in the whole state."

Despite having recorded 97 cases in Prayagraj, the district has not reported any death due to dengue so far.

Further, the officer informed that the administration has already started taking precautionary measures in order to curb its spread. 

"We have deployed our teams in different areas to undertake the door-to-door surveys. Regular larva sprays and fogging are also being done," he added.

On Tuesday, the officer said that the administration has hired 70 more workers to do regular surveys of each and every house of the district. The teams are also taking care of cleanliness in the areas. 

"We are continuously making aware people of covering clean water in their surroundings and not to let filthy water get collected in surroundings," he added.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh health minister Jai Pratap Singh informed that the state government is taking all the possible steps to control the outbreak of viral fever in the state.

60 deaths due to viral fever in Firozabad

On Monday, the total death toll due to viral fever in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad rose to 60, officials said. Additional Director, Health, Agar Divison, AK Singh said that a 14-year-old girl died in a medical college, while one child was brought there dead. Meanwhile, District Magistrate, Chandra Vijay Singh said that keeping in view cognisance of newspaper reports regarding overcharging by pathologies, he has issued guidelines regarding rates to be taken.

Firozabad, around 50 km from Agra and 320 km from Lucknow, has been battling an outbreak of dengue and deadly viral fever for the past three weeks now, with most of the victims being children.

Some cases have also been found in neighbouring Mathura, Agra and Mainpuri, according to the officials.

103 dengue cases in Kanpur 

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kanpur Dr. Ashok Shukla on Tuesday informed that there are 103 cases of dengue across the district. As per a report released by the CMO, the district reported nine dengue cases on Tuesday and out of the total 103 cases, 80 cases have been reported in the rural areas of the district. The report further revealed that 206 and 1025 tests were conducted for dengue and malaria respectively across the district yesterday.

Meanwhile, the patients have been visiting hospitals in Kanpur with complaints of fever these days.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Medical Superintendent of a government hospital in Kanpur Dr. Anil Nigam said that around 75-100 patients are coming to OPD with complaints of fever and 5-10 patients are being admitted per day.

"We have two patients who tested positive for dengue in the rapid testing but the same has not been confirmed in ELISA test. Effectively, there is no case of dengue in the hospital," he stated.

Nigam informed that a couple of patients were diagnosed with typhoid or malaria and the hospital reported zero deaths due to fever. "We also have an isolation ward for fever patients and a dengue ward," he said.

"All the 10 beds in dengue ward are unoccupied and there are about 30 beds unoccupied in the isolation ward. Right now we have an occupancy of 75-80 beds and we will increase the beds if the patients increase," he added.

21 active dengue cases in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Bhavtosh Shankhdhar on Tuesday informed that there are 21 active cases of dengue in the district. The CMO further said out of the 21 active cases, one patient has been admitted to a government hospital and the rest 20 are being treated in private hospitals. 

"We have deployed 20 testing teams for both rural and urban areas and testing facility is also available in different labs. We are testing all the possible patients recommended by the doctors and around 4-5 dengue cases are being reported every day. No patient is in serious condition right now," he stated.

"Around 100 people are being tested for dengue every day and almost 20,000 tests have been conducted for malaria in the district till now," he added.

Shankhdhar further informed that a team has been deployed for larvicide of the area from where a dengue case is reported. "We also make aware people regarding cleanliness and tell them not to let water stagnate anywhere," he said.
