Melbourne, Australia: England Premier League club Manchester City has taken control of struggling A-League club the Melbourne Heart, purchasing its license in partnership with Australian National Rugby League side Melbourne Storm.

Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop said Manchester City will take an 80 percent stake in the Heart, and the Storm's ownership group will take the remainder.

"Manchester City and their Australian partners have made a strategic investment and I welcome them to our growing competition," Gallop said. "It's another sign that the world is taking notice of Australian football."

The Heart is currently in last place in the 10 team competition with only one win from 15 matches.
