West Midnapore (WB): Hundreds of women from villages on Sunday attacked and destroyed several illicit liquor making units near Jagannathpur under Chandrakona police station of West Midnapore district.

They smashed up the liquor making equipments and destroyed more than 1000 litres of finished and unfinished liquor.

The women led by Kanchan Das and Radheshyam Dhara alleged that their family lives were being badly affected due to rampant consumption of illicit country liquor.

"Since the local authorities did not take any steps, we were forced to destroy all illicit liquor in this locality", said Radheshyam Dhara.

"Our husbands work, and then fritter away their money on country liquor. Our children do not get proper food, and husbands torture their wives after imbibing liquor", alleged Kanchan Das.
