Delhi's Race Course Road, where the Prime Minister's official residence is located, was on Wednesday renamed as Lok Kalyan Marg.
The Prime Minister's residence and main workplace – 7 RCR or Race Course Road – will now be known as Lok Kalyan Marg.
Announcing the decision, the New Delhi Municipal Council said that the present name doesn’t reflect the value system and ethos of India.
The road had got its present name from the Delhi Race Course which is located close to the PM’s house.
The news sent Twitter into a frenzy with many choosing to mock and criticise the government over the rechristening.
While some found the decision plain funny, others questioned its timing saying that while the nation mourned the martyrdom of its jawans in the Uri terror attack, the government was busy renaming the road.
Here is a selection of some Twitter reactions to the move:

Disappointed that the road was not renamed to Pradhan Sevak Marg & the house itself to Selfie Sewa Sadan
A terrible attack by terrorists on our army camp and we are busy re-naming roads... #LokKalyanMarg— arun giri (@arungiri) September 21, 2016
जो देश बदलने चले थे अब सड़कों के नाम बदलने में हीं उलझ कर रह गए . .Lok Kalyan Marg . #LokKalyanMarg— Kamya Tweets (@kamyamht) September 21, 2016
