New Delhi: Google's latest Android smartphone, the Nexus 5, is the fifth Nexus device and packs a five-inch display. Like its predecessor, the Nexus 4, this new device is produced by LG and has a lot of similarities with the LG G2. The 16 GB variant of the Nexus 5 costs Rs 28,999 and the 32 GB version Rs 32,999 on the Play Store. Overall, the Nexus 5 packs top-of-the-line specifications. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with a 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM, LTE radios worldwide (a first for Nexus devices) and a 2,300 mAh battery, complemented by a 4.95-inch 1080p IPS display. The Nexus 5 is the first device to come with Android 4.4 ‘KitKat' out of the box, which brings some improvements to the Android ecosystem. In short, Nexus 5 is one of the most powerful Android smartphones available in the market today.

Similarly, what Nexus 5 is for Google, the iPhone 5S is for Apple. The iPhone 5S is Apple's most powerful iPhone to date and probably one of the fastest selling in the last six years. The standout features of the iPhone 5s are its newest hardware inclusions and upgrades, namely Touch ID, the M7 motion co-processor, 64-bit architecture and the all-new iSight camera.

Design and build

iPhone 5S

It's fair to say that the iPhone 5S doesn't improvise upon the iPhone 5 when it comes to build quality. Both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 have the same size, weight, and proportions, and so does the premium feel and solid build quality. However, the iPhone 5S is now available in a new range of colours – gold, silver and grey, along with a metallic bezel around the Home key. The iPhone 5S comes with an aluminum chassis and chamfered edges, making it perfect to hold in hand.

The device measures 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.3 inches and weighs 112g (3.95 ounces).

In terms of button allocation, the iPhone 5S has a feature a power button, with a SIM card slot on the right, a ringer on/off button and volume controls on the left, and the plus button that can also be used to take pictures from the Camera app.

Nexus 5

The Nexus 5 has a simple yet elegant design and feels incredibly good in hand. It measures 5.43 x 2.72 x 0.34 inches. The device is lightweight (130 g) due to the reason that LG opted for plastic. Overall, the sharper edges and simple design makes the Nexus 5 a modest and utilitarian phone.

The phone is almost identical in dimensions to the Nexus 4: it is 4 mm taller, 0.4mm wider and 0.5mm thinner; yet it has a display that's 0.3-inches larger. Regarding the design, above the display, there is a round earpiece and to its left is the front-facing camera. Down below the display is an LED notifier. At the bottom of the device, there's a microUSB port for charging and syncing, and two grills - one housing a speaker, and the other a microphone. The top of the device has a 3.5mm headset jack and a small hole for a microphone that may act as a noise cancellation feature.

While on the left there is a sharp-edged volume button, and on the right there is the power button. On the back there's an 8MP camera in an unusually large module, and an LED flash just beneath it.
