The police have rescued 24 girls from the 'horror house' in Deoria.

"Didi bahar jaati thi...ma'am lekar jaati thi. Nahi jane pe ussey bandhkar le jaya jaata tha. Ek safed aati thi, ek kaali aur ek laal car bhi aayi thi. Subah jab didi wapas aati thi...kuch nahi kahti thi...roti thi. Unkhe aankhein soojh jaati thi (Ma'am used to take didi somewhere. They tied her when she used to refuse. White, black, red cars used to come to pick them at night. They were dropped back in the morning)." This is the statement of a teenage girl who managed to escape a shelter home in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh.

The horrific details of sexual assault and torture that the girls aged 15-18 years inside the illegal shelter home has sent shockwaves across the country.

The police have rescued 24 girls from the 'horror house' and arrested the couple who ran the shelter home without any required permission. However, many other girls are said to be missing.

"Twenty four girls were rescued yesterday from the shelter home at station road in the name of Ma Vindhyawasini Mahila Prakishan Evam Samaj Sewa Sansthan, which has 42 inmates. Eighteen inmates are still missing. We have sealed it," Superintendent of Police Rohan P Kanay said in Deoria.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that while of the girls has died, at least three others have been 'sold' in foreign countries.

The SP said the registration of the shelter home was suspended in June 2017 on report of irregularities found by the CBI and the administration gave an order to shift all the inmates from there.

"But the manager was running the home and told us that the high court has given a stay. When she was not able to show the court order, the administration sent a team to the shelter home to shift the girls but the manager did not cooperate," he said.

Meanwhile, in an apparent damage control, the state government ordered an immediate removal of Deoria District Magistrate Sujit Kumar.

The case has come to light amid massive outrage over sexual abuse of girls at a shelter home which was run by an NGO in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
