Three days after the sensational shooting of a 17-year-old girl inside a car in capital’s Najafgarh area, police have arrested a youth who allegedly committed the crime.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Shubham Gupta (23), was arrested from a relative's house in south Delhi on late Friday.

Police also recovered victim's mobile phone from Gupta’s possession. In a footage found in the phone, which was reportedly filmed just before the unfortunate incident, police have noted that Gupta and Simra were quite happy.

During interrogations, Gupta, a class 12 dropout, said that he had shot Simran in a fit of rage after he found out about her affair with another youth, identified as Nitin.

Gupta, who helped his father to run jewellary business, according to police, claimed he was upset with Simran because she could not explain why she was getting repeated calls from Nitin throughout the return journey from Dwarka to Najafgarh.

She had even asked Gupta to pose as Nitin while talking to her mother, police said.

Gupta’s mother had earlier told police that Simran had left on Tuesday saying was going to celebrate Nitin's birthday. Instead she went out with Gupta in a Mercedes C 320 owned by another jeweller, Yogesh (35), who accompanied the two.

She had gone for lunch with Gupta and Yogesh to Rajouri Garden around 2.30 pm. She knew Gupta but met Yogesh for the first time, police said.

Mother of the deceased had called her around 7 pm when she failed to reach home in time. The trio had stopped at different places while going to Rajouri Garden and had returned back around 9 pm. As the Mercedes car, owned by Yogesh, stopped outside girls house, he came out leaving her and Shubham inside.

Later, the mother of the deceased who was anxiously waiting for her heard a gunshot and rushed to find the car and her daughter in a pool of blood. The girl was taken to a local hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The gun used to shoot the girl was licenced and owned by Yogesh.

The deceased girl was a resident of Dipak Vihar locality in Najafgarh area. She was preparing for Law entrance exams.
