Veteran actress Sridevi dies at the age of 54

Veteran actress Sridevi has passed away, a family member said. She was 54. The actress, who was in Dubai for a family function, reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest. 

Confirming the news of her death, Sridevi's brother-in-law and actor Sanjay Kapoor, said: "Yes, it is true."

Sanjay, however, could not reveal more details as he was on his way to Dubai. Sridevi was in Dubai to attend the marriage function of actress Sonam Kapoor's cousin Mohit Marwah, along with husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi Kapoor. 

Sridevi has known for her performance is some of the iconic films like "Mr India", "Nagina", "Sadma", "Chaalbaaz", "Chandni" among many others. The Padma Shri recipient was last seen in "Mom" in 2017.

The news of the death came as a shock for everyone in the film industry. Bollywood personalities paid tribute to the legendary actress on their social media accounts:

Baahubalia ctor Rana Daggubati wrote on Instagram: ''Form a Child Artist to a Legendary Movie Star!! A great journey of one of the most charismatic women in the world of cinema comes to an end.''

Filmmaker Karan Johar penned a heart-rending note for the beautiful actress. He wrote on Instagram: ''I danced to hawa Hawaii when I was in school.....I have seen every film of hers multiple times....I met her with shaking hands and feet on the sets of my fathers film GUMRAH....and felt I had arrived when she called me for the first time .....every time I met her I had a star struck moment and a fan boy vibe....I don’t think I can believe it...perhaps I don’t think I want to believe that she is no more... she is a huge reason I love the movies....I feel like Indian cinema just lost its smile....the heavens are fortunate they just inherited a gift of life.....heartbroken.....''

Her Chandni co-star Rishi Kapoor wrote: ''Woken up to this tragic news. Absolute shock. Sad. Heartfelt condolences to Boney and their two daughters!''

Varun Dhawan tweeted, ''she started her acting career at the age of 4. Her legacy will live on superstar #Sridevi''

Priyanka Chopra called it a dark day. She wrote on Twitter: ''I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi . A dark day . RIP''

Hrithik Roshan too recalled her shooting days with Sridevi and wrote: ''I loved her, admired her so much. My 1st ever acting shot was with Sri Devi, I was nervous in front of her n I remember her shaking her hands pretending 2b nervous cause of me just 2 boost my confidence. V had 2 laugh,n she kept laughing until I got it right. Will miss you mam.''

Aamir Khan wrote a long note for the actress.

Sridevi has been popularly hailed as one of the finest actresses of Indian cinema. She was critically acclaimed for her phenomenal work in movies like Sadma, Chaalbaaz, Mr India among many others. Just like the entire nation, the news of her death has shocked the Indian film industry.
