Lok Sabha Elections 2024: With the Lok Sabha election set to take on May 25 in Delhi, the Election Commission is set to release the final list of candidates on Thursday, May 9. More than 15.2 million individuals are poised to exercise their democratic rights, marking a substantial surge from the 14.3 million eligible voters in the previous general elections. This surge reflects an impressive addition of 885,000 voters since 2019, underscoring the evolving landscape of political participation in the national capital. As the electoral canvas expands, all eyes are on the imminent contest for the seven coveted seats slated to take place in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Delhi gears up for Lok Sabha polls
Delhi Chief Electoral Officer P Krishnamurthy said that all steps would be taken to provide a convenient and easy voting experience to the voters. According to the information, drone cameras will also be used at polling booths for surveillance across all constituencies in the city. A total of 13,637 polling booths have been established, with webcasting planned for 50 per cent of these locations. Each booth is designed to accommodate a maximum of 1800 voters. To ensure security, over 78,000 policemen, along with more than 19,000 home guards and 6 companies of CRPF, will be deployed. Additionally, 2800 booths have been categorised as critical from the security perspective.
Election Commission's inclusive measures for all voters
The Election Commission has decided to ensure accessibility for all voters by offering pick-up and drop-off services for those unable to visit polling stations. Wheelchair facilities will be available at centres for those with mobility issues, with 4000 wheelchairs arranged for this purpose. As in previous elections, "pink booths" managed by women will also be established in all constituencies. Additionally, one model polling station will be set up in each constituency. In a new initiative, the Election Commission is also making a polling station entirely staffed by disabled personnel, a first-time effort aimed at inclusivity.
