Sensex snaps 3-day losing streak; up 22.44 points led by RIL,ONGC

Mumbai, Jun 5: Rising for the first time in four days, the BSE benchmark Sensex on Wednesday gained 22.44 points buoyed by gains in bluechips RIL, ONGC and Sun Pharma.




The 30-share index rose by 22.44 points, or 0.11 per cent, to 19,568.22. It had lost 670 points in the last three sessions.

Similarly, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty closed higher by 4.40 points, or 0.07 per cent, at 5,923.85.

Also, MCX-SX flagship index, SX40, ended up by 5.77 points, or 0.05 per cent, at 11,615.84.

Brokers said investors bought fundamentally strong stocks such as Reliance Industries, Sun Pharma and Larsen and Toubro at prevailing lower levels following three days of losses.

While Reliance Industries, a heavy-weight on Sensex climbed 2.56 per cent to Rs 800.55 ahead of its annual general meeting, Sun Pharma rose 1.91 per cent to Rs 1,038.30 after Sweden's Meda denied reports of stake sale.

ONGC gained 1.95 per cent to Rs 324.55.

Meanwhile, Just Dial on Wednesday made a smart debut on the bourses, listing with a gain of 12.61 per cent at Rs 611.45, after touching a high of 19 per cent against its issue price of Rs 530.

Out of the 30 BSE shares, 18 stocks were up led by RIL, ONGC and Sun Pharma, while IT majors Wipro and Infosys were the biggest losers falling 1.59 per cent and 1.32 per cent, respectively.

The oil and gas sector index rose the most by 1.77 per cent to 8,626.47 followed by realty and metal sector indices.
