Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad have filed an FIR against nine, including Twitter India and two Congress leaders, for falsely giving communal colour to an incident in Loni where an elderly Muslim man was assaulted and had his beard chopped off.
Twitter is the only platform that has not complied with the new IT rules that came into effect last month.
Ghaziabad Police have ruled out any communal angle in the incident, saying Sufi Abdul Samad was attacked by 6 men - Hindus and Muslims - who were unhappy over the amulets he had sold to them.
Police further said that Twitter has done nothing to prevent the video from getting viral, and named "Twitter, Twitter Communications India Pvt, The Wire, Rana Ayyub, Mohammad Zubair, Dr Shama Mohamed, Saba Naqvi, Maskoor Usmani, Salman Nizami" as accused in the FIR.
Matter relates to an incident where an elderly Muslim man in Ghaziabad was allegedly beaten up and asked to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. The Congress leader reacting sharply to the incident had said, ‘such cruelty is shameful for both society and religion’.
