New Delhi:  With Delhi set to vote on February 7 for the Assembly elections, neighbouring Haryana has put a prohibition of 48 hours on the sale of liquor in the areas of the state bordering the national capital.  The move comes amidst concern that liquor brought in from the neighbouring state may be used to entice voters ahead of polling.

“The Haryana government has declared dry days for a period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of polling, that is, from 6:00 PM on February 5 to 6:00 PM on February 7 within 3-km from the border of Delhi and also on counting day on February 10,” the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office said in a statement here.  Cities like Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonipat in Haryana adjoin the national capital.

Delhi government has already notified a similar schedule for dry days in the state in view of the polls.
