The activists believe if the central and the state governments do not take tough initiative to curb such incidents, India will soon gain the tag of being the "most unsafe place for women" globally.

All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch president Asha Kotwal told IANS: "Making a change in the mind set of people can't be done so easily. It takes a long and dedicated process, something not possible in India. So the best thing that can be done is to improve the law and order of the land."

"Reforms in the police, intense patrolling in vulnerable and crime-prone areas are some other things that should be done," added Kotwal.
