Nagpur: Reiterating NCP's demand for 144 seats in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today said the final decision on party's seat sharing with Congress will be taken by the chiefs of both the parties soon.

“During the recent seat sharing meeting, the NCP has asserted its claim in view of the performance in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections, but a final decision will be taken at highest level when Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar meet in Delhi,” Pawar told reporters here today.

Both the party chiefs are likely to meet on the issue after the ongoing budget session of the Lok Sabha, Pawar added.

The NCP has made its view clear to the Congress leadership with some facts and figures and would like to have its share of 50 per cent seats, he said.

NCP state unit president Sunil Tatkare, who was also present on the occasion, said the party was holding interaction with the leaders and workers in each district on the issue.

In reply to a question, Pawar said there was no anti-incumbency in the state and the party would put up a good show. “The alliance is in power for last 15 years,” he said.

Tatkare claimed that although the Lok Sabha results had left the party workers disappointed, it was no longer the situation.
