Gangster Abu Salem convicted in 1995 Pradeep Jain murder case

Mumbai: Gangster Abu Salem has been  convicted by Special Terrorist and Disruptive Act (TADA) court today  in the 1995 Pradeep Jain murder case.

The special trial judge had completed the trial of Abu Salem, Mehdi Hassan and a builder Virendra Jhamb in this case.

According to the police, Salem had got Pradeep Jain killed over a property dispute.

Jain was a city-based builder who was shot dead outside his Juhu bungalow on March 7, 1995.

Nameem Khan, an accused, turned approver in this case. Riyaz Siddiqui, another accused in the case had also turned approver but he retracted from his statement. He had given a detailed statement to the police but later denied his and Salem's role in the killing due to which the prosecution has declared him hostile.

Salem had also denied his role in the case. He was accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and was extradited from Portugal on November 11, 2005, after a prolonged legal battle. He is in judicial custody since then.
