The DCGI has granted permission to the Serum Institute of India (SII) to manufacture the Sputnik COVID-19 vaccine in India for examination, test and analysis with certain conditions.
Both Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech would be ramping up production of Covid vaccines in India from July. SII is manufacturing Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine called Covishield in India, while Bharat Biotech is producing Covaxin.
Rajasthan is currently facing shortage of vaccine. So the vaccination drive for 18+ age has currently been stopped in the state.

Serum Institute of India chief Adar Poonawala said that he is deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the fire at the vaccine-maker's facility in Pune which is at the heart of India's fight against the coronavirus. Five people have died in the fire.
While the plant produces multiple vaccines, the facility affected by fire did not have any production work on at the time of the incident, said the police.

The fire broke out at Terminal 1 gate of Serum Institute of India in Pune. It continued to rage at the fourth and fifth floors of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ3) building inside Terminal 1. 10 fire tenders have reached the site of the mishap.
