New Delhi: The seventh edition of IPL is almost reaching to its climax but what the fans of this cricketing extravaganza are missing is that none of the batsmen in the present edition have been able to reach the three figure mark so far.The highest individual score recorded so far is of Glenn Maxwell of Kings XI Punjab . He scored 95 runs twice but was unable to reach the three figure mark.He seemed to be a victim of nervous nineties. On an average every edition of IPL has seen four to six centuries being scored . In the last edition a total of four centuries were scored. There can be many reason for that, and one being the slowness of the wicket which makes stroke making difficult. Considerable number of matches were played in UAE where the cricket stadiums where considerably large in size and nature of the wickets was slow.It is generally the top three batsmen who are best equipped to score a century as they get the maximum number of balls to play. The new ball bowlers seemed to have found out new ways which prevent the openers from getting a good score.Except the opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Brendon Mc Cullum of CSK and in some matches the opening pair of KKR's GautamGambhir and Robin Utthapa almost every team has faltered at the top.The new crop of fast bowlers like Bhubeneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma, Ishwar Pandey and rookie Jasprit Bumrah has been pretty impressive with the new ball.
