India vs Australia: Rishabh Pant breaks MS Dhoni's historic 12-year record in Sydney

India buried a dispirited Australia under a mountain of runs with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja adding a dash of strokeful aggression on Day 2 of the final Test.

Rishabh Pant breaks MS Dhoni's historic 12-year record in Sydney

As India piled on the misery in Sydney, plenty of new records were set. While Cheteshwar Pujara's 193 broke Rahul Dravid's record, youngster Rishabh Pant has broken former Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 12-year record. 

The belligerent batsman has set a record of the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in an overseas Test. 

Pant crossed the milestone on Day 2 of the 4th Test in Sydney when he notched up his second Test hundred. The Delhi youngster went past Dhoni's score of 148 against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 2006. 

Pant remained unbeaten at 159 off 189 balls before Indian skipper Virat Kohli declared the Indian innings at 622/7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. His unbeaten knock consisted of 15 boundaries and a six. 

The 21-year old also holds the joint record of the highest score by an Asian wicket-keeper outside the sub-continent. It was Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahil who scored 159 against New Zealand in Wellington (2017).

Also, he is the first Indian wicket-keeper to slam a ton against Australia in their backyard.

India put together their second-highest team total on Australian soil, piling up 622/7 declared on the second day of the match. Their highest team total, 705/7 declared, was also incidentally scored at this venue, in 2004.
