Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday wondered why Congress President Rahul Gandhi gets disturbed when integrity issues of his late father Rajiv Gandhi-led government are raised and the 'Q' connection in the Bofors gun-deal is questioned.

"Terrorism shall not be tolerated and this declaration from the UN is noteworthy. Persistent measures taken by the MEA, under leadership of PM and his own visits have resulted in this," said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Friday said Congress President Rahul Gandhi is showing signs of desperation as the "fake" narratives built by him over the Rafale jet deal and loan waivers to business houses have evaporated.  

Jaitley said had Congress fielded Priyanka against Modi, it would have given India an opportunity to decide the fate of a "tried, tested and successful leader" as against a "new political dynast".

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Monday said Rahul Gandhi has very low credibility which has been eroded further with the Congress president expressing regret in the Supreme Court over his statement in connection with the Rafale judgment.  

In a blog post, a day after allegations of sexual harassment surfaced against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Jaitley said the incident of a junior ex-lady employee of the Supreme Court making harassment charges has "acquired a disproportionate magnitude".  

“To keep them where they are and to give them hope we need to pay them at least a month’s salary or more. The finance minister has assured us to look into that,” Dube said after the meeting.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Monday rejected the opposition's argument that elections should not be fought on national security issues, saying security and terrorism are the most important issues in long run while all other challenges are capable of early resolution.  

"One day the focus would be on the BJP candidate's educational qualifications, fully forgetting that a public audit of Rahul Gandhi's academic credentials may leave a lot to be answered. After all, he got an M.Phil without a Masters degree," Jaitley said in Facebook.  

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said the 'Modi factor' was writ large across the country during the first phase of elections and multi-cornered contests in several states favoured the ruling BJP.

Jaitley said the BJP preferred legitimate methods like crowd sourcing, cheque and electoral bonds over "the old obsolete style" of collecting only black money by some parties.

Currently, the size of the Indian economy is about USD 2.9 trillion, he said while addressing students of the Shri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi.

The ruling party has slammed Congress's poll manifesto as "dangerous and unimplementable". It has alleged that the promises made by the Congress on repealing and reviewing certain laws related to national security was akin to an agenda of India's "Balkanisation".

The Union finance minister, later through a blog, referred to Rahul Gandhi and said this man makes reckless allegations without any basis. 

Union minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday ridiculed the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls due in April/May, alleging it was "dangerous and un-implementable, and an agenda for balkanisation of India".
