Jammu, March 6: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday dismissed reports that he has resigned.
After rumours that Abdullah had resigned following the death of a protestor in Baramulla, he tweeted on micro-blogging website Twitter: "Note to others spreading rumours about my impending resignation. I haven't resigned. If my resignation could bring a person back to life I'd resign in a flash. My responsibility to the state and people is to ensure incidents like today's see justice done."
Earlier, the chief minister broke down in the state assembly while describing the death of a youth in army firing in Baramulla district in north Kashmir Tuesday.
According to police, Tahir Lateef Sofi, 29, was killed in firing by security personnel at Chatipadshahi Bridge in Baramulla town after protestors demanding the return of Afzal Guru's body pelted stones at army vehicles.
Guru, a convict in the parliament attack case who hailed from Baramulla district, was hanged Feb 9 in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
The government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the firing incident besides lodging of an FIR against the security personnel responsible for the youth's death.
Protests also erupted at over a dozen other places during the day in Srinagar, Badgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Bandipora districts where stone-pelting protestors clashed with security forces.
