Lucknow: Amid the ongoing war of words between the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and the Bharatiya Janata Party over the migfration of hundreds of families from Kairana, senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav today charged the BJP of inciting communal tensions and said that they were involved in in all illegal works including land-grabbing and fake currency trade.

"The entire state has become aware of them (BJP leaders). They are involved in all illegal works including grabbing land and fake currency trade. We are also initiating probe against them and strict action will be taken," Yadav said at a hurriedly convened press conference today.

Slamming BJP’s claims of exodus from Kairana, senior cabinet minister and party spokesperson Yadav said that the claims were solely motivated by political gains.

"There is no exodus in Kairna or anywhere in the state. We have intelligence and other reports in this regard. BJP leaders including Hukum Singh and others are inciting communal passions for political gains as Assembly elections are near," Yadav told reporters, adding that the BJP was vitiating the communal atmosphere in the state ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled in 2017.

"Their only work is to orchestrate riots and let people fight with each other but the state government will not let this happen. They are the same people who masterminded the Muzzafarnagar riots," Shivpal said.

Controversy erupted after BJP MLA from Kairana Hukum Singh claimed that over 350 Hindu families had migrated from the town due to fear of a Muslim mob. However, investigations revealed that the migration was due to a combination of several other factors that affected all communities.

The legislator soon marked a U-turn on his comments and later said the issue was one of law and order and had nothing to do with Hindus and Muslims.
