Describing the strike as the “biggest” working class action since Independence, Left parties warned the government that "bigger actions" will follow if demands raised by workers are not immediately met.
Meanwhile, more than one lakh workers joined the all-India industrial strike in the sprawling industrial belt in Gurgaon, with all four Maruti Suzuki plants closing down.
Suzuki's plants -- Maruti Udyog Ltd, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd at Manesar, Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd at Manesar and Suzuki Motorcycles India at Kherki Daula -- were shut.
