Finally it was Manoj's family who got hold of the driver of the Scorpio leading to his arrest. Babli's brother, two uncles and two cousins were also arrested.

Facing a social boycott ordered by Khap Panchayat, Manoj's family did not find a lawyer in Karnal. They hired a lawyer from Hisar district.

After 50 hearings with 41 witnesses the Karnal district convicted the accused.

Death penalty was pronounced for five accused. The Khap panchayat leader was sentenced to life imprisonment and the driver was sent to jail for seven years.
