The modus operandi was diabolical. Roopram told both his sons Ganesh and Deepchand that on the occasion of Diwali, they should perform occult (tantrik) with both their hands tied and stand atop a well located in a field.
As soon as the two brothers stood up on the well, Roopram pushed both of them into the well to their watery grave.
The two bodies were found on November 10, and in course of investigation, police stumbled into a story of sleaze involving the father, sons and daughter-in-law.
Police said, both the sons had found out about their father having illicit relations with the daughter-in-law. this led to frequent quarrels.
During interrogation, Roopram confessed that he had illicit relations with his daughter-in-law. He thought his sons to be hurdles in his way and decided to kill both of them. His son Ganesh had married 10 years ago but after two years of marriage Roopram developed relations with his daughter-in-law.
When Ganesh learnt about this, he spoke to his father. But the quarrels increased in the family. Disturbed with this, Ganesh went back to Delhi to work as a labourer.
Once, Roopram went to Delhi to kill his son, but he could not get an opportunity. While Roopram was out of station, his younger son Deepchand had physical relations with his sister-in-law.
When Roopram returned he saw the two getting close which was unacceptable to him. He asked his younger son to stay away from her which led to quarrels between father and son.
Roopram initially only wanted to kill his elder son but noticing the closeness between his younger son and daughter-in-law, he then thought of killing both the sons.
Roopram took help from his cousin brother and called both his sons near the well in pretext of finding hidden treasure inside the well on the night of November 6. He tied hands of both his sons and then asked them to pray for treasure. He asked them to step on the well. Treating this as an opportunity, Roopram pushed both his sons into the well.
