The IT Ministry is learnt to have finalised the social media guidelines to check misinformation, malicious info and gender biased views and have sent to the Law ministry for vetting it where account holder verification could be made mandatory.

The IT Ministry is likely to propose that personal information which neither qualifies as 'critical' nor 'sensitive' should be allowed to be stored and processed anywhere, while data classified as 'critical' should be kept only in India under the draft Personal Data Protection Bill.
Suspecting its information being "compromised", the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has asked its officials to strictly follow the IT Ministry's online security advisory, which includes avoiding surfing of "inappropriate websites" and use of personal USBs in the office computer.
"The momo challenge consists of a variety of self-harming dares which becomes increasingly risky as the game progresses and it finally ends with suicide challenge," IT Ministry's advisory said.
In a letter to MEITY, the WhatsAPP said that this is a challenge that requires government, civil society and technology companies to work together.
