India captain Virat Kohli on Wednesday hammered yet another one-day international hundred in the third match against South Africa in Newlands, Cape Town. His 34th ODI century helped India post 303/6 in their allotted 50 overs of the first innings.
Kohli, who had hit a century in the first match in Kingsmead Durban, continued with his scoring spree to notch up his 34th ODI ton as India look to take an unbeatable lead in the six-match series. With this century, Kohli is now just 15 short of Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI hundreds.
Kohli reached to his century in 119 balls and his knock was studded with 7 fours.
The 29-year-old survived a scare early on in his innings when he was given LBW by the on-field umpire in the 3rd over with him being on duck. However, the decision was overruled by the third umpire after the Indian captain opted for the DRS and a faint edge was noticed in the review.
Kohli had to come early today after India lost Rohit Sharma in the first over itself after being put in to bat by South Africa.
Fast bowler Kagiso Ragaba got Rohit caught behind at duck.
However, Kohli and Dhawan didn't let the Proteas take advantage of the early wicket and stitched a massive 140-run partnership for the second wicket.
Dhawan slammed his 25th ODI fifty while Kohli brought up his 46th half-century.
However, South Africa got the second breakthrough when JP Duminy removed Dhawan for 76.
Ajinkya Rahane, who was in good touch in the series, also played a rash short to get out on 11.
But Kohli went about his business as usual and kept the South African bowlers at bay.
