Munger rescue operation successful: 3-yr-old Sana rescued after 31 hours ordeal; father thanks NDRF for relentless efforts

Munger rescue operation : Rescue operations to pull out a three-year-old girl who fell into a 110 feet-deep borewell in Munger district of Bihar have been successful. The girl, Sana, who was stuck at 42 feet inside the borewell was rescued safe and sound after a 31-hour operation after a joint-effort by NDRF, SDRF, Army and Bihar Police.

The massive crowd which had gathered at the spot welcomed her with loud cheers and applaud. They shouted slogans to cheer on the rescue workers for their heroic efforts.

The girl is reportedly safe and sound and is responding well. She has been sent to the nearest hospital for medical attention. A green corridor was provided for her transportation to ensure fastest travel. Doctors, who are treating her in Munger hospital's ICU, have said that she is healthy and doing good.

The rescue operation, which continued for almost 31 hours, saw a meticulous step-by-step planning and execution by a team of experts, who dug a parallel tunnel, first with machines and then with hands to ensure no risk to the little girls' safety.

The rescue team then lowered an oxygen pipe to ensure supply of fresh air to the kid. Rods were put in place to prevent the kid from slipping further down the borewell. The team had also tried to feed the child with chocolate bars, but she could not eat anything as her one arm was stuck.

After over 31 hours of ordeal, when three members of NDRF team reached her they faced additional ordeal as her head was on the opposite end then the rescue workers, a NDRF official said. The challenge was not only to bring the girl out, but also to bring her out safely, thus we had to be extra cautious, he told India TV.

The hole dug by NDRF was refilled immediately after the rescue to avoid any untoward incident.

Teams are digging a parallel trench to get to the girl. We are monitoring her with CCTV. SDRF and Army jawans are trying their best to rescue her," Mangla said.
