New Delhi: Only one month is left for ‘Ramadan’ now, a holy festival of Muslims which is quite awaited among them.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month in which Qur’an - or Koran was revealed and Ramadan involves fasting for an entire month.

Muslims observe Ramadan with daytime fasting (meals are eaten before dawn and after sunset), night-time prayers, giving alms to the poor, reciting the Qur’an and refraining from sinful behaviour. The fasting includes all food and drink, and Muslims also abstain from smoking and sex during the day.

Indeed, it is quite difficult to observe fasts in the summers.

So, here we bring you some simple ways which can help you prepare your body for fasting:

Monitor you food consumption: Start with taking moderate quantity of food while you eat and try not to increase you appetite with over consumption.

Begin your day a little early: During Ramadan, Muslims get up early for Sehri, the pre-dawn meal, before they start with their fast for the day. So to prepare yourself for Ramadan, start having an early breakfast now. This will help your body to get used to the earlier hours.

Stick to three meals: Avoid taking snacks between the meals and try sticking to the three main meals. During Ramadan, you will have just two main meals, Sehri and Iftar, which will make you cut out one meal only.

Reduce your coffee intake: If you are an ardent coffee love, it is important for you to watch you caffeine consumption now.

Control your smoking desire: People who are regular smokers find it difficult to control their urge to smoke during Ramadan. This causes irritability, anger, restlessness, impatience, and difficulty concentrating during fasting hours in them. So in order to avoid such circumstances, it is better to get hold on you smoking.

Voluntary fast days: Try fasting in advance before Ramadan arrives. This will help your body get adaptive to fasting.

Change your sleep cycle: Many of us have a habit of sleeping late at night owing to our work schedules and eventually get up late in the morning. If you too are one such person you might face difficulty during Ramadan where you have to wake up early for Sehri. So it’s better to change you sleep cycle in advance.
