Using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in northern Chile, the team from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst detected six such massive galaxies that were dead.
The Artemis rover -- Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER) -- during its 100-day journey will explore the region's surface and subsurface for water and other resources, the US space agency has confirmed.
The mini-helicopter flew to the red planet on February 18 while being attached to the belly of NASA's Perseverance rover.
Spewing water vapour, carbon dioxide, and sulphur dioxide into the air, these explosions tore through the Martian surface about 4 billion years ago, according to scientists' estimates, reported in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
Webb, which is touted as the US space agency's next great space observatory, was first targeted to launch in March this year. It was later pushed back to October due to impacts from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as well as technical challenges.
"For all of NASA science, this is truly a historic moment," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for science at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
"Shower Shower Hour! Astronauts can’t take showers in space or the water would go everywhere, so I thought I would demonstrate how we keep hair clean on the @Space_Station. The simple things we take for granted on Earth are not so simple in micro-gravity!" NASA astronaut Megan McArthur wrote.
After completing its second coring, Perseverance manoeuvred the corer, bit, and open end of the sample tube in order to be imaged by the rover's Mastcam-Z instrument.
Days back, a student of Class 10 from Maharashtra's Aurangabad made headlines for being selected for MSI Fellowships Virtual Panel of NASA. What followed soon after was unthinkable. Here's the shocking story.
The results, published in the journal Scientific Reports, indicated that crew members with higher inherent sensitivity, as determined by gamma radiation on the ground, were more likely to see higher levels of changes to their chromosomes in their post-flight blood samples compared to those with lower sensitivity.
The rover will drive to a new location called Citadelle for a second shot at picking up its first rock sample.
According to court filings, NASA voluntarily agreed to temporarily suspend the contract until November 1, this year, while the US Court of Federal Claims adjudicated the case, the Verge reported on Friday.
The Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2) -- the second uncrewed flight for Boeing's CST-100 Starliner spacecraft as part of the US space agency's Commercial Crew Programme -- has been held up since late last year.
The images show Venus approaching from the left while the Sun is off-camera to the upper right.
"The double flyby also offers an unprecedented opportunity to study the Venus environment from different locations at same time and, moreover, in locations that are not typically visited by a dedicated planetary orbiter," the ESA said.
In preparation for the real-life challenges of future missions to Mars, NASA will study how highly motivated individuals respond under the rigour of a long-duration, ground-based simulation.
The American space agency in a statement said that data sent to Earth by NASA's Perseverance rover after its 1st attempt to "collect a rock sample on Mars and seal it in a sample tube indicate that no rock was collected during the initial sampling activity".
Developers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, call the mission "MaGIXS" -- Marshall Grazing Incidence X-ray Spectrometer.
OFT-2 is the second uncrewed flight for Boeing's CST-100 Starliner spacecraft as part of the US space agency's Commercial Crew Programme. The mission is targeted to launch at 1.20 p.m. EDT on August 3, NASA said in a statement.
