    'Operation Kaveri': India brings back home 559 people

    India on Tuesday brought back home a total of 559 people under its mission to evacuate stranded Indians from violence-hit Sudan. While 231 Indians arrived in Ahmedabad, another batch of 328 citizens were brought to New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted, "328 more passengers have landed in New Delhi. #OperationKaveri moving steadily forward as around 3000 have reached India now."

    SC Collegium recommends names of 3 lawyers for appointment as Bombay HC judges

    The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud on Tuesday recommended the names of three advocates for appointment as judges of the Bombay High Court. The collegium, which also comprises Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K M Joseph, proposed the names of lawyers Shailesh Pramod Brahme, Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla and Jitendra Shantilal Jain for appointment.

    Man’s naked body with injury marks found in Gurugram

    The body of a man with multiple injury marks was found in a village here on Tuesday, police said. Police were alerted after a sweeper of a boosting station spotted the naked body of a man lying in a pool of blood in the morning, they said.

    Sudan crisis: 231 Indians reach Ahmedabad from Jeddah

    As many as 231 Indians, including 208 Gujarat residents, who were evacuated from strife-torn African nation Sudan under the Centre's ‘Operation Kaveri’, landed at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday, said a state government official. Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, who handles the Non-Resident Gujarati (NRG) division of the state government, welcomed these Indians at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport upon their arrival here from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on a special flight, said the official.

    AAP used hawala, cash route to funnel liquor policy kickbacks for Goa polls: ED

    The Enforcement Directorate has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of "using" a part of the Rs 100 crore kickbacks allegedly received from the 'south group' liquor lobby to meet its expenditure for the Goa Assembly poll campaign in 2022. The accusation has been made in the agency's supplementary charge sheet filed in the Delhi Excise policy linked money laundering case. It has arraigned as accused a media publicity company, Chariot Productions Media Pvt. Ltd., and its owner-promoter Rajesh Joshi in the prosecution complaint. A Delhi court took cognisance of this charge sheet on Monday.

    "A careful perusal of findings of investigation has revealed that several persons, including Rajesh Joshi and his company Chariot Productions Media Pvt Ltd, are actually involved in several processes/activities connected with a part of proceeds of crime ie. the kickbacks of Rs 100 crore received from the South Group," the ED alleged.

    Congress promises "decisive action" against Bajrang Dal, PFI in its K'taka election manifesto

    The Congress is committed to take firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations such as Bajrang Dal and the Popular Front of India (PFI) "spreading hatred" amongst communities on grounds of caste and religion, the party said in its election manifesto for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls released on Tuesday. The action will include a 'ban' against such organisations. It also promised to "repeal all unjust laws and anti-people laws passed by the BJP government" within one year of coming to power.

    BJP leader allegedly murdered in Moyna, party agitates

    A BJP booth-level leader was found dead at Moyna in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district and the party has blamed the ruling TMC for murdering him. BJP booth president of Moyna, Bijaykrishna Bhuiya, was reportedly beaten up by "TMC goons" in front of his wife on his way back home on Monday evening and was forcibly taken away by them in a motorbike, the saffron party claimed.
    Bhuiya was later murdered, the BJP claimed and demanded the arrest of those behind it.

    Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said he has decided to step down as the party chief. Speaking at a book launch of his autobiography at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan here, Pawar announced his decision which was met with protests by NCP workers and leaders. “I have decided to step down as the president of the Nationalist Congress Party,” he said. Pawar also announced a panel of senior party leaders to draw a future course of action.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday alleged that Congress' history is about "appeasing terror and terrorists", and the party had questioned the country's defence forces, when the surgical strikes and air strikes had been carried out. Also accusing the Congress and JD(S) of "encouraging terror", the Prime Minister said they can never increase investment in Karnataka and cannot create new opportunities for the youth in the state. "People of Karnataka should never forget Congress' history and thinking.     Arunachal district to host C20 Summit in June

    Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh is set to host a four-day Civil 20 (C20) Summit starting June 9, where 150 delegates from across the world are expected to participate, officials said on Tuesday. C20 is one of the official Engagement Groups of the G20, which provides a platform for civil society organisations (CSO) to voice aspirations of the people, they said.
    Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who represents the district, convened a review meeting with officials and stakeholders on Monday to discuss the preparations for the summit.

    Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday slammed BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira for making "baseless" allegations against one of his ministers. Mann said the allegations showed that they were feeling jittery ahead of the Lok Sabha bypoll in Jalandhar, scheduled for May 10. Sirsa on Monday alleged in a tweet that one of Mann's ministers tendered his resignation after his "obscene video" was submitted to the Punjab governor. Replying to a question on Sirsa's allegations, Mann took a swipe at the BJP leader and dubbed his claims as "baseless". Mann added that he did not receive any resignation or video.

    The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will hear on May 8 a plea of the Delhi government challenging the power of the Lieutenant Governor to nominate 10 members to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and sought the quashing of their nomination. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and J B Pardiwala took note of the fact that a letter seeking adjournment of proceedings before it has been moved by the counsel representing the office of the LG. “We will then list it for hearing on Monday that is May 8,” the bench said. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and senior advocate A M Singhvi appeared for the office of the LG and the Delhi government respectively.

    Authorities searching a rural Oklahoma property for two missing teenagers discovered the bodies of seven people on Monday, including the suspected remains of the teens and a convicted sex offender who was sought along with them, the local sheriff said. Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice said the state medical examiner will have to confirm the identities of the victims, but “we believe that we have found the persons”.

    Arunachal logs 10 fresh COVID-19 cases

    Arunachal Pradesh recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the northeastern state’s tally to 66,928, a senior health official said on Tuesday.
    The active cases stood at 26, while 66,606 people have recovered from the disease so far, he said.
    All the cases were detected through rapid antigen tests, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Lobsang Jampa said.

    Rohini court shootout accused Tillu Tajpuriya killed by rivals in Tihar Jail

    Toll rises from 103 to 110 in Kenya cult starvation deaths

    US says 20,000 Russians killed in Ukraine war since December
