Pak-origin woman ties rakhi to PM Modi, says he hasn't changed in 24 years

A Pakistan-origin woman, who is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Rakhi sister, paid a visit to Delhi to celebrate the festival. Qamar Mohsin Shaikh, who settled in India after her marriage over three-decades ago, has been tying rakhi on PM Modi's wrist for past 24 years and today was no different. From the time he was a humble RSS worker, Qamar had endearingly kept alive the tradition even after he had become prime minister.

Qamar told news agency ANI in New Delhi, “I have been tying rakhi to Narendra bhai for the last 22-23 years, excited to do it this time too.”

She said PM Modi returned her call despite his tight work schedule. “This time I thought PM Modi must be busy but two days back he called, I was very happy to know that; started preparing for Raksha Bandhan,” she said.

Recollecting the time he was RSS worker, Qamar said: “When I first tied rakhi to Narendra bhai, he was a karyakarta but with his sheer hard work and vision, he has become the PM,” she said.

Qamar came to India from Pakistan after her marriage and has been living with her family in Ahmedabad since then. A fews years after her marriage, she approached PM Modi, who was an RSS worker back then, to be her Rakhi-brother as she did not have any other relatives in India apart from her in-laws. He happily obliged and has been keeping up his promise since then, Qamar told a news channel in an earlier interview.
