Uttar Pradesh: STF busts gang selling adulterated blood, 5 held in Lucknow

A total of 35 blood bags, 30 HIV kits, platelet bags, fake stamp papers and labels were recovered from the gang.

Lucknow adulterated blood racket

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the STF and Food Safety and Drug Administration conducted a raid in Faizullahganj area of Lucknow. 

The dirty business of adulteration is not just limited to milk or food products. A gang which sold adulterated blood has been busted by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police. Five members of the gang have been arrested. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the STF and Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) conducted a raid in Faizullahganj area of Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow. 

Five people -  Rashid Ali, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, Naseem, Pankaj Kumar Tripathi and Honey Nigam were arrested during the raid. They used to seel blood mixed with saline water, the STF said. 

A total of 35 blood bags, 30 HIV kits, platelet bags, fake stamp papers and labels were recovered from the gang.

Following sustained interrogation, raids were also conducted at Sitapur Road and Nishatganj localities. The gang used to change its place of work and run an illegal blood bank, the STF said.

"Prime accused Naseem said that he used to lure professional blood donors and extracted their blood after intoxicating them. By mixing saline water, one unit of blood was effectively doubled. Every adulterated unit was sold in the range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000," an STF official said.

A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC against the arrested and further investigations are on.
