The hideout was busted at the disclosure of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Talib Hussain Shah who along with his associate Faisal Ahmad Dar were overpowered by people and handed over to the police.
An official said the terrorists are learnt to use "tunnel and riverine" areas to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir and they have affiliation with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
LeT commander Talib Hussain and Faizal Ahmad Dar, a categorised terrorist of south Kashmir's Pulwama district, were captured in Tuksan village, said police.
On the basis of a specific input about the movement of terrorists in the district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police laid special checkpoints.
Earlier today, Security forces arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The terrorist was in touch with terror commanders across the Border. An FIR under relevant sections of law has been registered in Doda Police Station.
The officer said there has been no successful infiltration along the LoC in the valley so far this year. “Till May end, everything has been taken care of. The encounter in Kupwara began after the forces launched an operation in the Lolab region of North Kashmir.
A police spokesperson said acting on specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in Pulwama's Drabgam village, a cordon-and-search operation was launched by the security forces in the area on Saturday.
Incriminating materials, arms of ammunition including 2 Chinese Pistols, 18 live rounds of cartrideges and 2 magazines were recovered from their possession.
The operation took place in the Khandipora area of the Kulgam district. The encounter had started in the wee hours of Saturday.
