Srinagar:

A terrorist was killed in an overnight encounter in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army said on Wednesday (April 1). The operation is ongoing, with security forces continuing searches in the Arhama area of the Gandebal district.

The joint operation is being carried out by two Assam regiments of the Indian Army, alongside the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the  Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The cordon was tactically reorganised amidst intermittent firing, the Army wrote, saying the troops effectively retaliated with a calibrated response, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist.

"During the night of 31 March, the cordon was tactically reorganised amidst the intermittent firing underway. Own troops effectively retaliated with a calibrated response, resulting in one terrorist being eliminated. Operation is in progress," Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

Op Arahama

The operation, known as "Op Arahama", was launched by security forces on Tuesday night (March 31), in the Arhama area of Gandebal district, based on inputs of suspicious movement in the region. "During the search, vigilant troops observed suspicious activity. On being challenged, terrorists opened fire and their own troops retaliated," the Army said.

The joint operation continued for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the area, and the entire area has been placed on high alert.

Additional forces have been deployed, and search operations are ongoing to ensure the safety and security of civilians in the area.

Officials said that the operation will continue until the area is fully sanitized, while security forces are maintaining strict vigil to prevent any untoward incident.
