Arms and ammunition were recovered in the Dara Peer Makal area of Thanamandi in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, the officials said. A case was registered and an investigation was launched.
A massive search operation has been launched in the district along with adjoining areas of Jorhat to arrest the culprits. Security has been tightened and patrolling intensified across Upper Assam districts.
The approval for the procurement was reportedly granted at a high-level meeting of the Defence Ministry held recently and attended by the top brass of the military.
The incident took place at Sharifabad camp in the outskirts of the Srinagar city. The body of the Army officer was sent for post-mortem.
